👜The iconic Chaturanga line of bags, Haute Couture and Pret a porter, is the result of two intuitions, which come together in a series of unique artefacts: there is a textile part and a metal part, made by hand, respectively, by Maria Marchese, who is making her official debut as an accessories designer, and by master Florentine goldsmith and designer Valerio Salvadori, creator of the Redó Florence 1989 collection of jewellery and fashion accessories. The entire Chaturanga project is the fruit of their ingenuity.
✂Maria Marchese exploits the concept of refashion, understood as a practice that recovers discarded fabrics or materials: she therefore draws on fabrics from the 1960s/70s/80s inherited from her grandmothers, part of the well-known textile tradition and production of the Como area, and the modern idea of mix&match, i.e. mixing and matching, in a sophisticated version linked to the chessboard (to its shape and multiple meanings).
The spider, a symbol of weaving, an auspicious icon economically and otherwise, was chosen for the part made with goldsmithing techniques, and in this case, a spider that, on that chessboard, is meant to represent the ideal of the queen, i.e., of the winning woman.
👛Clutch in raw silk damask and lurex, python-embossed animal print silk, python-print bleach silk lining, clasp closure. Internal support in harmonic steel.
The Chaturanga Haute Couture hand clutch is a veritable chessboard, composed of 40 puffs, made and assembled by hand, one by one. The refinement of the damask, apparently in contrast with the animal print, marries instead the essential preciousness of total black silk. The bag becomes a true tactile experience, a small textile sculpture.
⚜ The handle, made using the ‘tubogas’ technique and with a central miniature reproduction of a spider inscribed in a square, can be detached from the bag and can be worn as a jewellery collar. The production of metal parts is entirely carried out in our workshop in Florence, using the traditional methods and techniques of the goldsmith's art. Florence has a great and prestigious artisan history, known all over the world, and our creations are the result of a long tradition handed down through generations. The model of the central logo is handmade in wax; this is followed by lost-wax casting, finishing and final polishing. The 24Kt gold plating is nickel-free.
🔆The handcrafted nature of the item may mean that it may differ slightly from the images shown online. No two items are identical and small differences in colour, size and shape are a sign of totally manual workmanship.
